Carved Limestone Mantel with Grapevine Frieze

A richly carved reclaimed limestone fireplace mantel built in three distinct registers. The cornice is cut with a deep run of leaf molding, the frieze below carries grapevine clusters and scrolling leaves that meet at a central cartouche, and a second band of leaf tip molding closes the lintel. Each pilaster jamb is carved with an acanthus leaf above a descending chain of husk drops. Photographed in low evening light, every undercut reads clearly across the warm cream stone. Suited to a formal living room, drawing room, great room or country house restoration.
