Limestone Mantel with Foliate Frieze and Volute Consoles

A substantial carved limestone fireplace mantel with a deep stepped cornice that breaks forward over each jamb. The long frieze panel is carved with scrolling foliage and open rosettes around a central palmette, and each end block holds its own carved rosette. Below, the jambs are heavy fluted consoles finishing in large spiral volutes, standing on fluted plinths. Honeyed veining runs through the cream limestone and gives the carving depth. Measured at 65.5 inches wide and 57 inches high, it suits a great room, library, estate or hospitality interior.
