Limestone Mantel with Carved Shell Cartouche

This reclaimed limestone fireplace mantel is organised around a carved scallop shell set within a scrolled cartouche, crowning a serpentine arched opening. Recessed shaped panels flank the shell across the frieze, and the molded shelf breaks forward over each jamb. The jambs are bold scrolled consoles, carved with acanthus at the top, a round medallion at mid height and a beaded band near the foot. The pale cream stone shows soft mottling and gently worn edges. Well suited to a drawing room, primary suite, library or refined period restoration.
